Tickets are $10 for the all-you-can-eat dinner, which includes beef or vegetarian chili, hot dogs, baked potatoes, and all the fixings. Additionally, chili may be purchased by the quart for $13.
To purchase tickets or quarts.
Tickets may be purchased at the door; however, advance purchase of tickets will ensure that the Troop will
have enough chili and will also help scouts reach their chili-selling goal. Advance purchase for quarts is also encouraged and will be available for pick up on December 3rd at the supper.

Proceeds from the chili supper will be used to purchase camping gear; including tents, chairs, knives, hydration packs, sleeping bags, lanterns, and more, for the annual Scout Buck Auction held in May.
Scouts must sell a pre-determined minimum amount of chili tickets to be eligible to participate in the auction, using "scout bucks" that they have earned throughout the year by attending meetings and campouts,
advancing in rank, earning merit badges, holding leadership positions, participating in the knotmaster program, and other activities.

We are using our original recipe that we have used for years to cook chili since the event began 28 years ago as a way to fund the auction.
Chili is slowly cooked with aromatic spices, Vegetables and beef using utmost care, cleanliness and safety precaution also beef and Vegetarian chili is cooked separately to avoid cross contamination.
So there is Chlli for everyone !!

While the adults take care of the cooking, the Scouts take care of setting up, serving, and the clean up afterwards.
It's our Troop Tradition and the Scouts are happy to share it with our community.
Local Law Enforcement and Fire fighters usually join us for this event and we could not be more proud and excited to host the Supper

Troop 840, which is led by Scoutmaster Frank Miller and Senior Patrol Leader Harrison Greenberg, meets weekly at Church of the Apostle.

Troop 840 travels to one of the most Historical and Cultural landmark which is dramatically Beautiful and often referred to as Texas' Gift to the Nation.
Big Bend National Park encompasses the largest protected area of the Chihuahuan Desert in the United States.
Rio Grande Wild and its Scenic River forms its southern boundary which serves as a major part of the international border between the United States and Mexico.

Planning a trip to the Big Bend National Park with our scouts has been in the works for many year and
we were so excited and thrilled to be able to visit this beautiful place which has the most breathtaking views of the
Mountains, desert, cactus, canyons and of course the Rio Grande, Santa Elena Canyon Trail, Lost Mine Trail and Window Trail.

Over 55 scouts and 25 adults joined to embark on this Hiking Adventure. It was a weekend full of unforgettable memories while on a Digital Detox.
Our scouts and parents enjoyed stargazing as big bend is away from developed areas and has the least light pollution.
Scouts hiked over 8 miles in 2 days in the clean crisp air at Nature Trail at Rio Grande Village and Santa Elena Canyon on the first day
On the second day, one group hiked at Lost Mine Trails and a different group hiked at Window Trails for about 5 miles.
Scouts learnt about hiking etiquettes, being well equipped, staying hydrated, packing the essentials and making good use of time.

Look no further than Coppell's Troop 840 to help your child develop outdoor skills, self-confidence, leadership, team work and above all
loyalty and citizenship skills that shapes their adult lives.

While we are still thawing out from our recent Winter Blast, spring is just around the corner and Boy Scout Troop 840 is holding their annual Mulch Sale.  As in previous years, the troop is selling premium quality, Texas-sourced products from Living Earth Technology, with four different types of mulch available:  hardwood, red-colored, black-colored, and cedar.

The mulch comes in two-cubic foot bags and is competitively priced at $5.00 per bag, with the exception of the cedar mulch selling at $6.00 per bag.  This includes free delivery by the scouts within the Coppell and Valley Ranch area.  Scouts will also spread the mulch at the customer's request for only an additional $2.50 per bag.  Delivery and spreading of the mulch is expected to take place the weekend of February 26 and 27, 2022.

Proceeds from the sale help individual scouts earn their own way to summer camp and monthly campouts, as well as fund Eagle projects.  Last summer, Troop 840 was again able to participate in monthly campouts and summer camps despite the continued COVID-19 Pandemic.

To purchase mulch, or if you have any questions, please contact any Troop 840 scout or send an email to mulch@troop840.org by Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

Delivery of goody bags to UT Southwestern Medical Group

Throughout the pandemic, Troop 840 scouts and adult leaders have found countless ways to continue providing service to the community while adhering to CDC guidelines to keep both themselves and others safe.

Recent service projects include collecting hand creams, lip balm, and snacks to prepare care packages for our healthcare workers at UT Southwestern.  The Troop was able to prepare over 150 bags to show appreciation for the hard work and stress endured during this unprecedented pandemic event.  This collection effort and delivery was led by Krystyna Isaacs, parent of Eagle Scout, Marc Hatanpaa.

In addition to these special projects, Troop 840 continues to perform hands-on, labor intensive service for the community.

Scout James Tan, Troop 840 Outdoor Ethics Guide, along with adult leaders, Claire Ebert and Michelle Tan, led a group of scouts to perform a clean up of trash around the trails and ponds located just north of Andy Brown – West on Saturday, March 6, 2021.   This type of conservation service product is performed regularly around the community.   In just a few hours, the troop was able to fill approximately 8 large trash bags with all manner of debris, including cardboard boxes and even a car tire.

By continuing their commitment to serve the community, Troop 840 strives to deliver on their promise of Scouting: Adventure, Learning, Challenge, and Responsibility, and uphold the Boy Scout Oath; to help other people at all times, even in the midst of a pandemic.

Troop 840, is led by Scoutmaster Frank Miller and Senior Patrol Leader Asher Johnson.  They meet weekly at the Church of the Apostles, Coppell, Texas.  For additional information on the Troop, please visit their website at www.troop840.org

Luke Armstrong as a Cub Scout

Luke Armstrong, and his family, have a deep-seated connection with Coppell, Texas and Troop 840.  Luke was first a Cub Scout, and grew in scouting to receive his Eagle with Troop 840 in 2016.

He was attending Texas A&M University, and, on August 30, 2020, he was involved in a small-plane crash over Bryan, Texas, with three casualties.  He was the lone survivor.  Luke lost his long-time girlfriend and her parents in that crash, while he himself sustained many life-threatening injuries, including bleeding on the brain, facial fractures, broken jaw, among numerous others.  Thankfully, he is recovering, but the road ahead is a long one and a costly one.

On top of all the expected costs associated with his care, the rehabilitation facility he is admitted to does not provide parking passes, even for immediate family members, and that cost alone is $20 per day.

You can follow his recovery through the Facebook page created by his sister, Mackenzie Armstrong, Team Luke Armstrong & his Road to Recovery.

The family has asked for get well cards and wishes to be sent to him at:

Our boys and girls’ lives were turned upside down when COVID-19 struck the US. Schools were closed, parents and students were home 24/7, and everyday life stressors were magnified to new heights. What scouts needed was consistency, leadership and a chance for normalcy. Scouts and their adult leaders in Troop 840 (T840), Coppell, TX, centering on the scouting principles of leadership, service and outdoorsmanship, have met the challenge during these trying times, while maintaining these principles and getting creative on how to achieve results while adhering to the CDC guidelines.

We are sharing the story of T840 to encourage parents and young people aged 11-18 to join us to have an opportunity to meet these stressors head on and make a difference in Coppell.

Since April 2020, T840 has met every Tuesday night to hold a virtual troop meeting. Scouts in troop leadership have been meeting every other Saturday to brainstorm ideas for virtual troop meetings and camp-outs.

After saying the Pledge of Allegiance at the troop meeting, the scouts move to separate breakout rooms for patrol time where they work on virtual physical fitness together, learn how to pack for a camp-out, participate in Earth Day e-activities,  plan virtual campfire skits and work on rank requirements.

The troop has held two virtual campouts, held over Zoom, and met up for a biking trip, down the Campion Trail, where the scouts rode in small patrol groups, socially distanced with masks, and a kayaking and hiking adventure on Grapevine Lake. Each campout had a virtual campfire with skits and jokes while parents camped with their scouts in their backyards and cooked meals.

Troop Guides, scouts with several years’ experience, have been virtually meeting in small groups between troop meetings to help the most recent recruits rank up to Tenderfoot and Second Class. Adult troop leaders and parents have continued to complete Scoutmaster conferences, review Eagle projects, and complete Boards of Review virtually. Older scouts have been completing their merit badges with Merit Badge Counselors using virtual conferencing and attending small group sessions for Camping, Personal Fitness and Citizen in Community merit badges either in person outside or virtually.  The Citizen in Community merit badge work has also led to opportunities for service and our Troop family has answered that call with great pride.

Every month the scouts have been participating in service projects such as decorating St. Joseph’s with American flags on Memorial Day, preparing meals at home to be delivered to the Genesis Women’s Shelter or local food banks, coordinating a toy drive, and picking up trash in the parks. They’ve also worked on helping younger children creating outdoor scavenger hunts and developing chalk-ercise game routes outside their homes.

If you have ideas for service projects you would like help with, or would like to join Troop 840, please email our Troop Scoutmaster, Craig Warner, at: cgwarner2012@gmail.com or contact us at: https://www.troop840.org/contact and we would be happy to invite you and your family to join us for a meeting to check us out!
