GRAPEVINE, TX (February 21, 2022) — On Ash Wednesday, March 2, pastors from First Grapevine, A United Methodist Church, will be placing repentance ashes on foreheads on Main Street from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The pastors will be on South Main Street between Wall Street and Franklin Street. There is also an opportunity for early risers to have pastors place ashes their foreheads from 6:00 am to 8:00 am outside the church's Founders' Chapel, 422 Church Street, located one block west of Main Street. All are welcome to participate.

Christian churches have observed Ash Wednesday as the beginning of Lent for centuries. Traditionally, the imposition of ashes is a part of a special service. First Grapevine recognizes that in today's busy society, work and family schedules do not always allow time for such mid-week services. This "Ash-In-A-Flash" moment will enable many to pause briefly on this special day to begin the serious process of preparation for the holy weeks of Lent.

Early Christian church gatherings and teaching sessions were not held in temples. They took place where people were living their regular life, such as places of work and daily tasks. A traditional Ash Wednesday worship service will also be held in the church sanctuary at 6:00 pm on March 2.
