The Community Gardens at Independence Elementary continues to sprout this week with the help of Team Depot. Local Home Depot Stores, Lewisville and The Colony location, through their Team Depot program, will be working this week to put in the student plots of the Community School Garden.

Upon completion, the school garden will be utilized by the 700+ students that call Independence Elementary home. The project based garden curriculum, developed by a team of teachers and parents, will launch Fall of 2013. Plans are in place for the Community Garden to be open to the surrounding communities.

"We are very excited to partner with Home Depot on this project," said Christie Redrow, Director of Partner Development for Independence Gardens. "This parent-led team has been working diligently for a year and a half to see the fruition of this project. We are looking forward to teaching the children and the surrounding community the concepts this project will bring. We will be utilizing various permaculture techniques and Organic planting concepts that will make this a one-of-a-kind program in the area."

Work will be occcuring all week. The Garden Team is looking for volunteers to help with the project. For volunteer information, log on to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040A4EA9AF2AA31-student.
