Willis, Robison set for May 24 concert at MCL Grand

The singing-songwriting tandem of Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison will perform at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater on May 24 as part of the fourth annual Texas Tunes concert series.

The show will start at 8 p.m. in the Performance Hall of the MCL Grand, 100 N. Charles Street, and will include a brief intermission. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors age 60 and older or children age 12 and younger, and can be purchased at MCLGrand.tix.com.

Lewisville residents are able to purchase single-show tickets for $5 each, either in advance at City Hall or on the performance date at the MCL Grand box office. Discount tickets are not available online. Current driver’s license or utility bill will be required to verify residency.

Willis and Robison have built a loyal following around Texas and beyond with what has affectionately been called the “Bruce and Kelly Show.” This dynamic couple (married since 1996) blends two very distinct musical talents into a sound that is difficult to describe and impossible not to enjoy. Both artists are deeply rooted in the hard country, yet deeply progressive music scene that is long on big emotions, serious Saturday nights, long necks, roadhouses, big hair, roughnecks and tender-hearted women.

Their most recent album, “Cheater’s Game,” was released in January. Just prior to their appearance at the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin earlier this year, they were announced as the 2014 Austin Music Awards winner as “Best Country Act.”

The Texas Tunes series features performers from music halls and festivals throughout the state who present great music in a variety of genres, but all with that unique Texas flair that has made the state a hotbed for fans of live music. The 2014 series ends July 5 with a performance by Anson Funderburgh.
